Flick at the cups. The ball arcs, clips the rim, rattles and drops — because it is being simulated, not animated.

THE THROW
That leaves you about one degree of aim to play with, which is the whole game. Throws are lobbed because a lobbed ball falls into a cup and a flat one crosses it — the same reason real beer pong is lobbed, arrived at the same way.
Nothing is scripted. A rim-out happens because the ball hit the rim.
Off the table and in is worth two cups. It falls out of the physics rather than being a special case, so it works from anywhere on the table.
The cups are pushed back into a tight triangle, so clearing the last few is a game and not a grind.
Make both of your throws and you throw again. It is the moment the whole game turns on.
THE NIGHT
The room is unlit and the felt is nearly black, so the only things glowing are the cups still standing. A side that is losing is visibly going dark — you can read the score off the table without looking at a number.
Make one and you see it again from down at rim height, in slow motion.
THE LEAGUE
Add the people you actually play with. Every pair keeps a head-to-head record, and games played on a real table count too — log the final score and it lands in the same league as everything else.
